🗣️ The spoken pitch

20-second version“The PACTE is 12 reforms to give the final word back to citizens: citizens’ initiative referendums, fair voting, free media, honest officials. Neither left nor right — transpartisan rules. We’re asking candidates to sign. Will you pledge to vote only for those who do?”
2-minute version (the thread)“Today, we vote every five years, then we wait five years. The PACTE gives citizens the final say: the RIC — the right to propose laws, repeal them, recall officials, and amend the Constitution. Around it, we fix the rules of the game: a more representative voting system, blank ballots that count, real media pluralism, officials who answer for what they do. The idea: it gives no one an advantage, so everyone can vote for it. We get candidates to sign, and it gets adopted by referendum. Are you in?”

✓ DO (stay transpartisan)

  • Talk about the “rules of the game,” not ideology.
  • Say “your cause, whatever it is, will be better served by fair rules.”
  • Remind people that nothing is imposed: everything is decided by referendum.
  • Highlight the left and right co-signatures.

✕ DON’T

  • Attack a party or a candidate by name.
  • Get drawn into immigration, Europe, taxes… (“that’s for after the PACTE”).
  • Oversell: own the points that are “open to debate.”
  • Use jargon (say “you rank the candidates” rather than “Condorcet voting”).
  • Promise “everything, right now.”

💡 Quick answers to common objections

✉️ The template letters (ready to send)

Two letters, two audiences: the candidate (to get their signature) and the party activist (the active voter base — the people who can get their candidate to sign from the inside). Adapt them and sign with your own name.

These letters are sent in French — the English below is a faithful translation.

To the candidate

Subject: The 2027 PACTE — will you let the French people decide? Dear Madam, Dear Sir, I am writing to you about the 2027 PACTE: a cross-partisan commitment that involves no policy platform — only the rules of the democratic game. Twelve reforms (citizens’ initiative referendum, voting system, blank ballots, transparency, independence of the courts and the media…), debated publicly for a year, then put to the French people by referendum, one year to the day after the presidential election. The PACTE imposes nothing: each reform, and each of its parameters, will be settled by a vote of the French people. Signing the Charter simply means committing to organize that debate, and then that referendum. My question is therefore simple: will you sign the PACTE Charter? Your answer, whatever it may be, will appear on the public scoreboard of candidates’ positions, which thousands of citizens consult before deciding how to vote. Awaiting your reply, I remain, with my respectful regards as a citizen, [Your name, your town] The Charter: pacte2027.fr/pacte/charte

To a party activist or supporter

Subject: a cause that also serves yours Hello, You campaign for your ideas, and that does you credit — the 2027 PACTE is not asking you to change them. It proposes one thing, upstream of every platform: clean democratic rules of the game (citizens’ initiative referendum, a more representative voting system, blank ballots that count, pluralistic media, officials who answer for what they do…), chosen by referendum. Fair rules are the guarantee that YOUR ideas will be heard better: a voting system where no one has to “vote tactically” anymore, equal airtime, the right of citizens’ initiative. Whatever your side, you come out ahead. That is why we are asking every candidate — including yours — to sign the Charter: a commitment to open the debate, then let the French people decide. A candidate who signs honors their voters. Spread the word, and ask them to sign. [Your name] The full project: pacte2027.fr
